Unusual California Laws, Just in Time for April 1 – ENJOY

April fools

There are many laws and regulations in California. While most have a history behind them, not all of them make sense and some are downright peculiar. Here are examples:

1. It is illegal in Los Angeles to wash your neighbor’s car without their permission.
2. It is illegal to curse while on a miniature golf course in Long Beach.
3. It is illegal for a woman to drive a car in her bathrobe.
4. It is illegal to hunt from a moving car.
5. In San Francisco walking an elephant down Market Street is illegal unless the elephant is on a leash.
6. In Arcadia, peacocks have the right of way. They are given the right of passage in driveways and all roadways.
7. In Los Angeles it is illegal to throw a frisbee on a city beach without first obtaining a lifeguard’s permission.
8. In Eureka California it is illegal to walk backwards or sleep in the middle of the road.
9. In Hollywood silly string is prohibited on Halloween.
10. In Chico, a city law forbids detonating nuclear devices within the city. If you ask me, I approve of this one.

While these laws appear outdated and odd, you never know when they will be enforced. Therefore, my recommendation is to follow the laws. No matter how strange they may sound. Happy April 1, 2025!!
